Passes historic waxman-markey
clean energy bill
WASHINGTON, DC — Today the House of Representatives passed
the landmark American Clean Energy and Security Act , sponsored by Rep. Henry A.
Waxman, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Rep. Edward J. Markey, Chairman of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global
Warming.

Washington, DC - Representative Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, visited China last week along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and several other members of the Select Committee. The delegation traveled to China and Hong Kong to discuss many aspects of the U.S.-China relationship, including climate change, clean energy, and other aspects of the U.S.-China relationship.
In
addition to Speaker Pelosi, the other members of the congressional
delegation, all experts on issues related to clean energy and the
environment, were Congressman James Sensenbrenner, Ranking Member and
Republican of Wisconsin; Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Democrat of
Oregon; Congressman Jay Inslee, Democrat of Washington state; and
Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Democrat of California.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today the Energy and Commerce Committee approved H.R. 2454, “The American Clean Energy and Security Act,” by a vote of 33 to 25. This legislation is a comprehensive approach to America’s energy policy that charts a new course towards a clean energy economy.

Former Vice President Al Gore and Former Senator John Warner testified before Chairman Markey’s Energy and Environment Subcommittee on the bipartisan need for comprehensive energy legislation and in support of the Waxman-Markey discussion draft.
Rep. Markey addressed the crowd of thousands of environmentalists on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on April 19, 2009 in anticipation of Earth Day on April 22 and to encourage Americans to support the Waxman-Markey Clean Energy Bill that the House Energy and Commerce Committee is considering this week.

with other energy experts at a forum at MIT on Monday, April 13 to
discuss the future of clean energy in national policy and in the
Massachusetts economy. As leaders in Washington strive to stabilize and
grow our economy, clean energy solutions are showing the most promise.
World-renowned energy experts will discuss how decisions made in
Washington relate to the Massachusetts economy, our national security,
and the threat of global warming.

Rep. Markey (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Energy and
Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Environment led a closed-door briefing
with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Markey and a bipartisan group
