WASHINGTON, DC — Today the House of Representatives passed the landmark American Clean Energy and Security Act , sponsored by Rep. Henry A. Waxman, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Rep. Edward J. Markey, Chairman of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.

June 1, 2009 - Rep. Markey joins Speaker Pelosi and bipartisan congressional delegation in China

Washington, DC - Representative Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, visited China last week along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and several other members of the Select Committee. The delegation traveled to China and Hong Kong to discuss many aspects of the U.S.-China relationship, including climate change, clean energy, and other aspects of the U.S.-China relationship.

In addition to Speaker Pelosi, the other members of the congressional delegation, all experts on issues related to clean energy and the environment, were Congressman James Sensenbrenner, Ranking Member and Republican of Wisconsin; Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Democrat of Oregon; Congressman Jay Inslee, Democrat of Washington state; and Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Democrat of California.

May 21, 2009: Energy and Commerce Committee Passes Waxman-Markey Bill

WASHINGTON, DC — Today the Energy and Commerce Committee approved H.R. 2454, “The American Clean Energy and Security Act,” by a vote of 33 to 25.  This legislation is a comprehensive approach to America’s energy policy that charts a new course towards a clean energy economy.

Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Malden) hosted President Obama’s top climate, energy and science advisers along with other energy experts at a forum at MIT on Monday, April 13 to discuss the future of clean energy in national policy and in the Massachusetts economy. As leaders in Washington strive to stabilize and grow our economy, clean energy solutions are showing the most promise. World-renowned energy experts will discuss how decisions made in Washington relate to the Massachusetts economy, our national security, and the threat of global warming.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Chairman Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) convened a hearing of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Environment entitled, “Preparing for Climate Change: Adaptation Policies and Programs.”

The witnesses who testified from left to right were:  Bishop Callon Holloway, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, On Behalf of the National Council of Churches, David Waskow, Climate Change Program Director, Oxfam America, Lord Christopher Monckton, Chief Policy Adviser, Science and Public Policy Institute, E. Calvin Beisner, Ph.D., National Spokesman, The Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, Larry Schweiger, President and CEO, National Wildlife Federation, John Stephenson, Director of Natural Resources and Environment, Government Accountability Office, and Tom Karl, Director of the National Climatic Data Center, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
