Thank you for your continued interest in the issues affecting the Seventh Congressional District of Massachusetts and the nation.
MY WORK IN WASHINGTON: As Chairman of two House energy panels, I have been working to answer the President's call for a clean energy economy that will create millions of new jobs.
I introduced, along with Chairman Henry Waxman, the Waxman-Markey
American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), the first comprehensive
legislation to address the concerns of the American people on energy,
national security and global warming. This legislation will reform the
country's energy policies by limiting the amount of carbon pollution in
the atmosphere and by investing in a clean renewable energy economy
that will lead to new jobs, new businesses and less dependence on
foreign oil. Waxman-Markey was approved by the Energy and Commerce
Committee on May 21.
I am hard at work building bipartisan support for this comprehensive
clean energy legislation from other members of Congress, and I'm
confident that the United States Congress will take decisive and
historic action to pass this bill and that President Obama will sign
the final legislation.
While we continue our work in Washington, we're also mindful that
climate change is global in scope. Last week, I traveled to China with
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and several other members of the Select
Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, which I chair. The
delegation traveled to China and Hong Kong to discuss many aspects of
the U.S.-China relationship, including climate change and clean energy.
We also traveled to Alaska to see first hand the damage caused by
global warming in our own country.
MY WORK IN MASSACHUSETTS: I have also been working hard in
Massachusetts on energy and climate change issues. In April, I hosted
President Obama's top climate, energy and science advisors along with
other energy experts at a forum at MIT to discuss the future of clean
energy in national policy and in the Massachusetts economy. After
touring several clean energy technology companies in our congressional
district, I am confident that Massachusetts will lead the way towards
American energy independence.
We in Massachusetts have answered a call to revolution before. With
your help, I am confident we will bring the legislation to a vote in
the House chamber and send it to President Obama for his signature.
